Weight-on-Bit. More data, more efficient drilling.
Allows optimization of the drilling process
Better assessment of risks
Less excessive wear and tear
Higher rate of penetration, more efficiƫnt drilling
Directional drilling is becoming increasingly complex. As a result, there is a growing need for advanced measurement tools that provide greater insight into the drilling process. The Weight-on-Bit is the solution. In addition to the accurate position measurement offered by the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool, the Weight-on-Bit provides accurate measurements of the forces acting on the drill head downhole.
How does the Weight-on-Bit work?
The Weight-on-Bit (WoB) is a compact module that attaches to the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool. It measures push/pull force and torque in real time during drilling.
The measurements are received on a display for the driller, along with the values measured by the Gyro Steering Tool, which include pitch, azimuth, vibration and mud pressure. All this information allows the driller to better assess the ground conditions and understand the risks. This understanding is key to optimizing the drilling process.
For example, by comparing the push/pull forces measured downhole with those measured on the rig, it is possible to determine which forces are being lost due to friction on the drill rods.
Which drillings are possible?
The Weight-on-Bit is highly effective for optimizing HDD operations in hard rock formations, as it allows for monitoring the impact on the drill head to prevent damage.
Additionally, the Weight-on-Bit offers significant benefits in clay conditions by providing insights into the effect of expansive clay that adheres to the drill rods and causes friction.
Overall, the Weight-on-Bit is an ideal tool for any complex drilling task.
More efficiency with Weight-on-Bit
The Weight-on-Bit can be used to determine the optimum push/pull and torque forces for each individual bore. This prevents excessive wear and increases the drilling speed (Rate of Penetration).
The Weight-on-Bit thus enables a new step in the optimization of the drilling process to make pilot drilling operations as efficient as possible.
Frequently asked questions
What does the Weigt-on-Bit measure?
Is the Weight-on-Bit also possible in combination with a mud motor?
Is the Weight-on-Bit for sale?
What does the Weigt-on-Bit measure?
The Weight-on-Bit measures the downhole push and pull forces as well as the torque applied to the drill bit during horizontal directional drilling. This real-time measurement allows drillers to monitor mechanical loads directly at the drill head, improving control, reducing the risk of equipment damage, and optimizing drilling performance.
Is the Weight-on-Bit also possible in combination with a mud motor?
Yes, the Weight-on-Bit is ideally suited for use in combination with a mud motor. It can be used for jetting as well. During motor jobs, it provides accurate downhole measurements of push/pull forces and torque directly at the drill bit. This ensures greater efficiency and safety during horizontal directional drilling in harder ground formations.
