81 degrees horizontal curve under road interchange

In October 2025, Brownline surveyed an HDD project in Druten. What made this project unique was the very large horizontal curve of 81 degrees.

Brownline collaborated with contractor Klever on this project, who carried out the challenging HDD crossing to install a low voltage cable. The goal is to expand the power grid to ensure there is sufficient capacity in the future for residents and businesses in this region. After all, demand for electricity will only increase, and more and more electricity is being generated locally as well. This makes expansion of the grid necessary.

Challenging horizontal curve

The design of this drilling project included a large horizontal curve of 81 degrees over a length of 283 m (928 ft). The total length of the drilling was 448 m (1470 ft), so the horizontal curve took up almost two-thirds of the bore.

The entry point was located right next to a motorway, the N322 (Maas and Waalweg). The drilling ran under the road interchange, crossing both an access road and an intersection. The drill then punched out, nearly perpendicular to the entry point.

Accuracy assured with Drillguide GST

For the pilot bore, the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool could be trusted to provide the highest quality. The accurate real-time measurements made it possible to drill the planned path with extreme precision. The road interchange was crossed without any disruption, making the drilling process highly efficient.

The reliability and accuracy of the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool played a major role in this project. Thanks to a combination of good cooperation, expertise, and accuracy, the project was completed successfully.
