New regulations for vehicles over 2.5 Tonnes

As of 1 July 2026, European international regulations for commercial vehicles are changing. Any vehicle weighing over 2.5 tonnes must feature a tachograph when crossing national borders. At Brownline HQ, we constantly optimize our operations, so we used this moment to critically review how we deploy our service vans.

Upgrading Our Fleet Capacity

During our review, we found that our vans often carry loads beyond their permitted weight. To ensure safety, compliance, and efficiency on the way to the drill sites, we are reclassifying vans 024 through 046 to a 4.2-tonne capacity. Please note that this weight upgrade means only surveyors and drivers with a specific driving licence can operate these vehicles.

Driving Hours and Toll Requirements

The upgraded fleet will bring a few practical changes to our daily routines. We are equipping these vans with both a tachograph and a toll unit. Starting 1 July 2026, kilometre-based road charging (Truck Toll) becomes mandatory for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes.

Furthermore, we must now strictly comply with official driving and rest times legislation. This will directly affect our project planning and scheduling. To assist with compliance, these vans will also have a limited maximum speed of 90 km/h.

Training Available in the Academy

Operating the new tachograph system requires proper instructions. A dedicated training course is available in the Brownline Academy.

All staff affected by this change have been informed individually. A number of surveyors have already obtained the necessary driving licence. Congratulations!
