Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool. World's most advanced steering tool in the HDD industry.
Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is an advanced trenchless method used to install underground utilities beneath obstacles such as urban infrastructure, natural reserves, rivers, and railroads. This technique enables precise underground drilling while minimizing environmental impact and avoiding disruption to surface-level structures.
Over 20 years ago, Brownline introduced the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool (GST), a breakthrough in HDD navigation. Since then, the state-of-art Drillguide GST has been deployed in all our projects worldwide.
The highest accuracy everywhere
The Drillguide GST has an industry leading accuracy of 0.04° in azimuth and 0.01° in pitch, in any condition. This limits the deviation to a maximum of 0.7 meter per 1000 drilled meters.
The steering tool measures the position of the drill head in real time (measurement-while-drilling). This data is combined with the drilled length to calculate the displacement using our proprietary algorithms. By measuring in real time, the Drillguide GST enables precise steering of the drill head along the intended drilling path, to create a smoothly drilled line according to the specified radius.
Not affected by interference
The Drillguide GST operates flawlessly without being influenced by magnetic interference, ensuring precise control under any conditions. The system eliminates the need for surface coils, enabling drilling operations near objects like roads, railways and pipelines.
Accuracy always key
With our Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool, drilling operations are executed with the highest precision. Watch the video of a drilling project using our Drillguide GST in Dubai.
Minimal preparation time
Within an hour of arriving at the drill site, our tool is ready to start the directional drilling process.
Our system has been developed in such a way that there is no need for magnetic fields to determine the position. The great advantage of this simple set-up is that it saves our costumers preparation time, research and therefore costs.
Pressure-While-Drilling reducing blow outs
The Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool comes standard with our Pressure-While-Drilling (PWD) sensors. These sensors measure both the mud pressure in the borehole and the internal pressure.
Careful real-time monitoring of borehole pressure reduces the risk of inadvertent returns (blow outs), which is particulary important when drilling in environmentally sensitive areas, as well as in busy urban environments.
Brownline offers Pressure-While-Drilling as an additional service. Do you want to learn more about PWD? Contact our Service Team.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool?
Does it matter how big the tunnel is?
Does the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool suffer from interference?
Is it possible to drill into harder soil such as rock?
Is the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool for sale?
How accurate is the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool?
The accuracy of the Gyro Steering Tool is exceptionally high. For azimuth measurements, the tool achieves a precision of 0.04°, which translates to approximately 0.7 meters per 1,000 meters drilled. For pitch measurements, it offers an accuracy of 0.01°, equivalent to about 0.17 meters per 1,000 meters. This level of accuracy makes the Gyro Steering Tool ideal for complex horizontal directional drilling (HDD) projects where precision is critical.
Does it matter how big the tunnel is?
The size of the tunnel does not matter during the pilot phase of horizontal directional drilling. Once the pilot bore is completed, the tunnel can be reamed to a larger diameter as needed. With the accuracy of our steering service, a smooth drill line is created, which improves the efficiency of the reaming process.
Does the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool suffer from interference?
The Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool is not affected by external interference. Unlike traditional steering systems that rely on magnetic fields or surface signals, the GST uses gyroscopic technology that allows it to function accurately even in environments with potential signal disruptions, such as near railways, roads, or pipelines.
Is it possible to drill into harder soil such as rock?
Yes, it is possible to drill into harder soil types with the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool when using a mud motor. The mud motor enables efficient drilling through dense and resistant ground conditions. The Drillguide GST is very well suited to survey mud motor jobs as it provides the most accurate positional data in real-time. The Drillguide GST is tested in extreme conditions and has been used to survey thousands of successful mud motor jobs.
Is the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool for sale?
No, the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool is not for sale. Instead of selling the tool, Brownline offers a complete service solution. Our experienced Service Team is available to support you throughout your pilot drilling project, ensuring precise guidance and successful execution using the Drillguide technology.
Modular design, many advantages
Thanks to its modular design the Drillguide GST can be combined with specific add-ons. These modules offer a solution for every situation, that make drilling projects possible that where previously unthinkable.
