Two drillings for new water catchment area in Salland, The Netherlands

In July 2024, Brownline surveyed two drillings in the Dutch province of Overijssel. In the Salland region, near Holten, water pipes were being installed. With this, an existing water catchment area is being expanded.

Water catchment Espelose Broek is located in Overijssel, near the Sallandse Heuvelrug. Mineral water is extracted from the ground here at dozens of meters deep with water extraction wells. This is processed into drinking water for the region.

A new field is being built next to the existing water catchment field, and this requires water pipes. These pipes were installed with two directional drillings about 100 m / 328 ft apart. The HDD's were 220 m / 720 ft and 250 m / 820 ft long and crossed five parallel gas lines under the meadows.

The pilot drillings were surveyed with our Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool. This allowed accurate drilling over the planned trajectory at a safe depth under the gas lines. The small horizontal curve in the design was also accurately tracked with the GST ensuring the drillings surfaced at exactly the right location in the right direction.

First-ever gyro drilling

For our client BL Boringen, this was the first drilling project using a gyro. The accuracy and efficiency of our Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool are unsurpassed, and as a result the customer was very satisfied with the results of the pilot drilling.
