In August 2024, Brownline surveyed a pilot drill for a project in Rijpwetering. Under a typical Dutch polder, a cable connection was installed along a considerable S-curve. To guarantee the accuracy of the HDD crossing, our expertise was needed.
This HDD was commissioned by Visser & Smit Hanab and carried out by Rekoert Boortechniek & Rekoert Infra. The goal was to install low voltage cables, to expand the power grid in this area. This job took place on a special location.
Access using cable ferry
The Buurterpolder is a polder-island, which is only accessible using a cable ferry. All of the equipment had to be ferried across to the polder in order to reach the job site.
The HDD crossing had a length of 317 m / 1040 ft and made an S-curve to weave in between the properties and reach the exit point on the other side of the water. Shortly after entry, the drill curved 28° to the right before curving 54° to the left. Partly because of this S-curve, the bend radius was very tight.
Highest accuracy
To ensure an accurately steered curve, we guided this drill job using the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool, the world’s most accurate and advanced steering tool. This guaranteed absolute precision when following the planned curves.
The Drillguide GST allowed this challenging HDD crossing to be completed very efficiently.
