In August 2022, Brownline was commissioned by Heijmans to survey a bore in a polder near Amsterdam. This bore served to greatly improve the electricity supply of an isolated restaurant.
The IJdoornpolder is a classically Dutch piece of nature situated just outside of Amsterdam. The polder is owned by Vereniging Natuurmonumenten, who manage and protect nature reserves. In this area, they facilitate the living conditions of protected farmland birds. In the IJ next to the polder is “Lighthouse Island”, home to a restaurant. To improve the reliability of the electricity supply on this island, contractor Heijmans worked to reinforce the grid, commissioned by grid operator Liander. This project involved drilling under the bird-rich wetlands.
The drill path was almost 900 m / 3000 ft long and passed straight under the polder. In a sensitive natural area such as this one, it was obviously important not to deviate from the planned trajectory. Using Brownline’s Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool, very precise measurements were taken during drilling. The reliability of these measurements allowed the pilot bore to be completed in the most efficient manner.
With this efficient trenchless solution, the power cable to the island could be installed while minimizing the impact on the environment. This project once again highlights the reliability and ease of the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool.
