In July 2024, Brownline surveyed a drilling in Heiloo, in the north of the Netherlands. A new electrical line was being installed under a railroad. Drilling had been done under this railroad before, so the new electrical line was placed under two existing lines.
Little space above and below ground
The drilling ran parallel to the Vennewatersweg and was carried out by Klever Boor- & Perstechniek. On the narrow lane between the road and the plots of land, there was little space for the equipment. There was also little space underground: two pipes had already been laid there several years ago.
At a depth of 14 m / 46 ft below the railroad tracks was a water pipeline, and about 5 m / 16 ft below that was a sewer main. These were lying vertically parallel to the planned trajectory for this project. In order to avoid another intersecting line, the new electrical line was drilled to 28 m / 92 ft below ground level. This allowed the line to be laid in the safest way possible under the busy underground infrastructure.
Tight margin requires the highest accuracy
The margin at the exit point was also very tight, so it was important to continuously monitor the position of the drill head. With measurements from the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool, the drill trajectory was tracked very accurately. Our tool delivers the highest accuracy without being disturbed by external interference. It also does not require ground level access.
By using the Drillguide GST in this project, the drilling progress could be monitored in a safe and reliable manner up to the exit point.
