The Zeeheldenkwartier is a lively and busy neighborhood in the heart of The Hague. In June and July 2021, Brownline measured three bores for the construction of new medium voltage cables, commissioned by Visser & Smit Hanab. This work is part of a larger project: the redevelopment of the Piet Heinplein.
In the middle of the Zeeheldenkwartier district of The Hague, work is being done on the redevelopment of the Piet Heinplein. The bridges and quay walls on the square itself need to be replaced and the moat under the square will also be reopened. Until now, this moat was covered between two bridges. By undoing this, the square will not only get the canal back, but tour boats can also moor there. To make this work possible, some of the existing underground medium voltage cables will have to be relocated or in some cases even completely replaced with new cables.
The 700, 463 and 355 meters long wells all took place under the busiest main streets in the district. In addition to many side streets and buildings, the district also features roads with a park in the middle, which meant that all kinds of external interference had to be taken into account. However, the most important thing with a project of this size and in such a particularly busy location, is to limit the nuisance to local residents as much as possible. The entry and exit points were located at different points in these streets, which meant that a number of traffic detours had to be set up locally. For this project, the use of the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool was therefore the best choice, because above-ground access had to be limited as much as possible. This is not necessary with the Drillguide GST. Thanks in part to the quick set-up time of our tool and the extremely accurate results, the bores could be measured quickly and very accurately, so that the project could proceed smoothly.
Thanks to the good cooperation with the team of Visser & Smit Hanab, the three drillings were carried out to full satisfaction!
