Brownline has worked on a drill job of connecting a 132KV power supply to two substations on a small group of islands. These were not just any islands; we worked on Deira Palm Island, part of the artificial Palm Islands off the coast of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
In order to bring the power supply to the two substations, a total of 4 circuits had to be installed. Each circuit consists of 2 HDD crossings for 5 x 250 mm SDR 11 HDPE ducts, which means that a total of 8 drills were required. The length of each drill ranged between 600 and 650 meters.
The corridor for the drill path was beside and in between the existing bridges that connect the islands to the mainland. This means that there was no room for deviations. At its narrowest point, the corridor for the drill path was only 6,40 meters or 20.99 feet wide. Together with the required horizontal curve, this drill job provided some challenges beforehand.
The Drillguide GST proved once again to be the best solution, because all 8 drills were completed successfully and in a very short time span. Brownline is proud to have been involved in a project on such a special location.
